Alpine Marine Systems – Protected against all the Elements

Alpine Marine products combine superb performance and maximum power efficiency, and are outstandingly robust and uncompromisingly suitable for marine use. Rigorous UV-light, salt-water and water intrusion protection is applied to the units ensuring a durable, long-lasting marine system. Alpine Marine products meet the ASTM guidelines for salt fog testing as well as ASTM UV-weathering testing. Speakers, subwoofers and controls units also meet the NEMA water and dust intrusion ratings on a high level, all electronics are water-repellent coated.

All Alpine Marine Speakers, Subwoofer and Remote Control solutions are IP (Intrusion Protection) rated by the US-American Electronics Manufacturer Association (NEMA) in the category water-rigidity. Two numerals added to the acronym "IP" inform about the protection level of a device. The first numeral is the IP code indicating the degree of protection from solid foreign objects. The second numeral is the IP code indicating the degree of protection from moisture intrusion.

IPx5 / IPx6 Testing

Testing The NEMA IPx5 water intrusion test requires a product to remain watertight for three minutes after enduring water spray from a 1/4" diameter nozzle or powerful jets of 12.5 liters water per minute from a distance of 3 meters. The test parameters for IPx6 rating require a product to remain watertight for three minutes after enduring water spray from a 1/2" diameter nozzle or powerful jets of 100 liters water per minute from a distance of 3 meters.

(As an indication: A typical garden hose flows about 30 liters per minute).

Ready for the Great Splash

All Alpine Marine SPR/SPS Speakers as well as the SWR Subwoofer are NEMA-rated on level IPx5 which means they safely resist the intrusion of jetting water. MC-10/MC-1 Commander is 100% water proof and the MC-1 Wireless Controller's water resistance is NEMA-rated IPx6 which means it even withstands powerful jetting water. Alpine's Marine Head units and the Amplifiers mainly used inboard are only coated with a water repellent Marine Coating System but conform to the ATSM salt fog and UV Marine specifications.

Salt

Salt

All Alpine Marine products have been thoroughly tested by one of the largest voluntary standards development organizations in the world. ASTM* international standards have an important role in the worldwide information infrastructure and represent a trusted source for determined quality standards in design, manufacturing and trade.

ASTM B117 Testing

The ASTM's B117 standard defines a product's salt and fog rigidity by testing it in a custom built salt spray testing chamber with 70°C internal temperature where the product is sprayed with 6.0000 drops of salt water over a period of 24 hours.

Ready to go Off Shore

Due to their ATSM B117 certification, the complete range of Alpine's Marine products will reliably withstand salt and fog. To assure the test result's feasibility, all Alpine Marine products were positioned in the test chamber at an angle in which they are normally installed in the boat.

ASTM G154/D4329

Testing The ASTM G154 UV-light accelerated weathering test standard for non-metallic materials and the D4329 test standard for plastics define a product's UV resistance by exposing it high-intensity UV-light at 70°C for eight hours, followed by water spray at 50°C for four hours. This cycle repeats for 500 hours.

Ready for the Sunny Cruise

All Alpine Marine products have successfully passed the ASTM G154 and ASTM D4329 standards and are well prepared to endure countless sunny hours at the coast or off shore without any impact on material and/or function.
